DSTTAnother Nintendo DS Card

It’s been some time since I last did any work on my DSTT website. It doesn’t get as many hits as some of my other websites so I’ve not really done much work on it. Today I’ve decided that the website is worth investing a little more time in and it will hopefully gain some extra visitors.

The main feature of the DSTT website is a helpful list for first time buyers of 5 points you should know about before buying the Nintendo DS card. The first tip is to make sure you don’t buy a low quality DSTT as it might not be compatible with your Nintendo DS. Some cards don’t fit properly in some models of the DS Lite. I don’t mean the DS Lite in comparison with the original DS. I mean there are very slight variations between two versions of the DS Lite which most people would never notice. The only time you might notice the differences is if your card is half a millimetre too small to make the connection to complete the circuit.

The second tip on the list regards how to know who is reliable. It is advisable to not trust the word of the people selling to you. In fact you shouldn’t even trust the word of people who praise a company on that company’s website. The reason is that the quotes they publish may be entirely fictional. They can freely get away with making up customer feedback. The best place to get reliable feedback about DSTT sellers is from independent websites. This means they will not be able to censor unfavourable comments. My website even gives an example of a store with hundreds of positive feedback comments left on a site with no negative ones. If you check another site for reviews of them, a massive 60% of the feedback is negative.

The third tip is designed to let you get your DSTT ready for action as soon as it arrives in the post. Here the audience are told the benefits of downloading a kernel in advance so that you can start using the card as soon as you copy the kernel across to it from your computer. Well there are a few other things you will need to actually give your DS TT some functions (which will be covered later) but the kernel is what’s needed to get your card to work, even if it doesn’t do anything.

Using DSTT as a Media Player

Now to make your DSTT do something. The next tip is to get a media player downloaded and ready to add to the DS TT. This will mean you actually have a purpose and one of the main advantages of using the device over having a Nintendo DS without one. With a media player you will be able to watch films, home movies and armature videos all on your portable games console. This feature alone could add £50 to the value of the console if it were to be sold as an upgraded machine released by Nintendo. On top of that you will be able to view your photos and show them off to anyone who is sitting near you on the bus. Finally, my personal favourite feature of having a media player is that you will be able to listen to music through your console. You can add all your MP3s (even a DSi won’t let you play MP3s!). All this kind of turns your console into a DS 1.5, even better than the DSi which is only an improvement at all because it has a couple of cameras which are used for practically nothing.

There’s more! This next point finally gets to the reason that most people would want a DSTT; to play homebrew games. Personally I think some of the apps are cooler than the games but I think most people will go for the games since it is a games console. So this tip advises you to download one of the most popular homebrew titles which is StillAlive DS. This game was recently voted into the top 10 DS Homebrew games of all time. If I was to write the article out again I would instead advise that the first game you get should be Pocket Physics. It was voted slightly lower in the chart of best homebrew games but I think it is the most enjoyable.

The final point is fairly closely related to the first to the previous one. Along with getting homebrew games on your DSTT, you should get homebrew applications. The example I gave in the post was DSOrganise. I think a better example would be the amazingly popular Colors! It gives you the ability to use your Nintendo DS like a canvas which you can paint on in the same way you would with a brush. It uses console’s unique screen to sense pressure so the hard you press, the darker the colour will be. It’s a fantastic application which I advise owners of a DSTT to get (it is free after all).
